A jolly good man-an exemplary Mr. Wang
Borned in Xiamen, China, Mr Wang Chin Pang, the 78 year-old Vice President of Tung Ann District Guild moved to Singapore with his dad in the 1930s. During the Japanese occupation, the 10 year-old Mr Wang worked as a newspapers delivery boy. He also worked as a hawker helping his dad then. He later ventured into the hardware and shipbuilidng supplies business.
Mr Wang has been active in social activities too. In 1953, he enrolled in the St Johons Amublance Brigade. He also helped in the flood rescue of a Bedok village as well as in the Bukit Ho Swee fire rescue. He was awarded the Long Service Award by Singapore’s first President Yusof. Mr Wang is also the ex-President of Ai Tong Old Boy’s Society and the former Vice Chairman of Sin Chew Jian Quan Tai Chi Society.
Make peace and no war. This is Mr Wang’s motto in life. To him, the concept of ‘work first, enjoy later’ is equally important. Whenever one meets Mr Wang, he would like to ask ‘Any thing I can help?’. It all sums up Mr Wang’s character – peace-loving and ready to help.
The annual Scholarship and Busary Awards Presentation is an important and well-organised event by Tung Ann District Guild. In particular, the award of bursary has helped many needy members’ children in their studies. Mr Wang strongly supports increasing the amount of bursary given. He also encourages more events being organised to attract younger members to participate in the guild’s activities.
Mr Wang, a jolly good man, may we wish you and your family well.
